I AM indeed greatly delighted to be here this morning to commission the State Blood Screening and Certification Centres, and the Health Facility Integrated Voluntary Counseling Centres conceptualized to improve the specialized health services available to our people and checkmate the huge economic loss and developmental limitations the HIV/AIDS pandemic has become to the government and people of Sub- saharan Africa in general and Nigeria in particular.
The rapid increase in the number of HIV/AIDS infected individuals as shown from the result of the various sentinel survey carried out, indicate that majority of the people infected are between the age bracket of 20-39. As a proactive Administration, we are persuaded by the scary result of the survey so far carried out that, this indeed can spell disaster for our nation and our State unless decisive steps are urgently taken. This is because this age bracket represents the economically viable and vibrant group that constitutes the productive workforce and the future leadership of any nation. As a caring and responsive administration, we immediately moved as soon as we settled down during our first term in office to tackle the threats of the HIV/AIDS pandemic on the socio-economic life of our State.
